The 46th National Washinkai Championships were held at the Canons Leisure Centre on Sunday 9 March 2025.
It was an exciting day with more entries this year than had been forecast.
With an early start of 0930, the events were constant with all the referees and judges working continuously. Having a high standard from all kata competitors and kumite competitors, everybody stated how enjoyable the day had been.
Both tatami (mats/areas) were used, allowing every new judge and referee to gain more experience, as well as allowing new officials a chance to learn how a competition is run.
The day finished nice and early, which was great for the clubs that had travelled to the championships through different routes as the M25 Junctions 10 and 11 had been closed all weekend.
Medals were issued after new Dan grade certificates were awarded and the 2025 Black Belt Shield was awarded to Sensei Pete Saunders, 4th Dan, Dover Club. Photos to follow.
As a result of the success of the day, many clubs said that they will organise regional championships to improve standards for next year's national championships, which are scheduled for the Sunday 8th March 2026.
