On Sunday 3 March, Washinkai held its 45th National Championships at the Canons Leisure Centre, Mitcham, Surrey.
Numbers were down substantially from last year's competition due to the huge increase in the cost of living as well as the ULEZ charge in London.
However, the day was a huge success, with many of our clubs from the UK competing, as well as Spain and Switzerland being represented.
It was also the first competition held with our new Chief Referee, Neil Benton 7th Dan, who ran the day extremely well, keeping the two tatami occupied throughout the day. Credit must also be given to all the officials who kept the day going with Sarah Benton's guidance, without any breaks whatsoever.
At the end of a successful day, medals were issued, Dan certificates presented and everybody left in daylight hours.
