On the 19th September, the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II took place in London.

To ensure the event passed safely and without incident, over 10,000 police officers from almost every force in the UK were deployed in what was to be the biggest police operation in the history of the capital.

The Metropolitan police were supported by specialist units including armed police, rooftop snipers, motorbike escort riders, officers on horseback, dog teams and the marine unit.

Summer Gasshuku 2022

Washinkai held another successful summer gasshuku at Milton Abbey School in July 2022.  Shihan Chris Thompson started teaching karate at the school in 1988 and the Association has been holding its popular summer courses there since 1991.

The Gasshuku was held on the hottest week on record.  However, this did not daunt all those attending!  It was the largest gasshuku held for many years, with many returning to train after the Covid pandemic.  Every session was held outside in the shade of the trees behind the Abbey.

Dover Karate Club – and its connection to the Gurkhas

Our Dover Karate Club Instructor, Pete Saunders, 3rd Dan, teaches karate to children of Gurkha families.

Guston C of E Primary School, Dover in Kent, is the location of Pete’s Club. The school has many pupils from the Nepalese community who live nearby. The Gurkhas insisted Pete was included in their recent Jubilee Display. Pete was very honoured to be associated with the event.
